Adding More Light To Your Home To Make It More Inviting

October 16th, 2008

One complaint from many homeowners is the amount of light their home seems to have in the evening. This is especially true of those rooms where they spend a lot of time and in the fall and winter months when the days are shorter and people are spending more time indoors out of the cold.

So many homes only have one lighting fixture or one strip of track lights hanging from their ceiling and this seems adequate, but it really can be lacking in the warm and inviting feel. If you are not in love with your home due to the lack of warm lighting consider adding some beautiful Tiffany lamps to the rooms you spend the most time to increase the amount of light that is available in it.

For the living room add a Tiffany floor lamp next to your favorite chair to read by. These lamps take up very little space and add so much lighting while adding that beauty only stained glass can add.

Also consider adding Tiffany table lamps to end tables or buffets to increase the lighting in corners or more illumination to the center of the room down close to where it is more useful unlike more tract lights high on the ceiling.

Just placing a few Tiffany lamps around any room can add so much lighting to your life. Plus as a added bonus these lamps can be moved around at any time to get the lighting exactly where you need it, when you need it.

Keeping Stained Glass Panels Clean

September 24th, 2008

Dirt and grime is the biggest enemy of the beautiful colors found in stained glass windows. It is always a good idea to periodically clean the glass with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. If done on a regular basis the stained glass panels in your home or office can be at there most gorgeous hue with the bright colors coming through as the artist who created them envisioned how they should look. This is a simple step that will only take a minute of your time every so often and yet you will get the most from your stained glass panel in your home.

Hanging Stained Glass Panels To Display

September 19th, 2008

Many people want to add the beauty of a stained glass window to their home but do not want to get it installed directly into their homes as a window. Many do not want to place the art glass panel permanently into the house for any number of reasons. This does not mean you cannot have the beauty of stained glass in your home.

Most stained glass panels actually come with the hardware needed to hang the panel from a ceiling. With this hardware the panel can be hung so that it is proudly displayed in a window where light can shine through and show the beautiful colors within the stained glass. With this display arrangement the panel can be securely suspended from a ceiling to hand down in front of any window where it will catch light. This is a gorgeous way to show stained glass in your home or even an apartment that will be a centerpiece for talk with everyone who comes into your home.

Purifying Air With Stained Glass Panels

August 28th, 2008

Amazing news from the world of science regarding stained glass panels! According to Zhu Huai Yong, a material scientist at the Queensland University of Technology, stained glass windows are actually photo catalytic air purifiers. Tiny gold electrons in some stained glass when energized by the sun can destroy airborne pollutants. Though the science of this is slightly beyond me it does give a reason other than sheer to beauty to install stained glass panels into your home.

Restoring Stained Glass Panels

July 21st, 2008

Lately I have been reading more and more of old buildings removing their stained glass panels in order to restore them and reinstall them back in the window frame. This is actually a very dangerous move which can result in the breakage for the glass window. Depending on the restoration that is needed most work can be completed on the stained glass while it is still installed in its location. This will reduce the chance of breakage which can result from trying to remove the panel from the window, repairing, then reinstalling. If you have any question on whether a stained glass panel can be fixed in place or not contact an expert in stained glass windows and get a consultation on the matter.

Arthur Nash and the Tiffany Studios

June 6th, 2008

Many know of and give credit to Louis C. Tiffany for his masterpieces in stained glass, which came from his studio in New York. Yet few realize that his plant manager, Arthur J. Nash actually played a large part in that art coming to life in the form of blown glass and stained glass panels. Nash had worked for the Thomas Webb glasshouse in England and upon coming to New York met Tiffany and the two formed a company, Tiffany Furnaces.

It was Tiffany Furnaces, which produced the gorgeous opalescent glass, which Tiffany worked with to create his stained glass windows and Tiffany lamps. Even Tiffany himself did not know the chemistry behind the coloring of the glass, and few did since this was a closely guarded secret. Without Arthur Nash you have to wonder if Louis Tiffany would have been as great at the art of stained glass as he turned out becoming.

Bear Track Stained Glass Panel

May 19th, 2008

I believe one of the more interesting stained glass panels that All Things Tiffany has added to the ever-growing line of art panels on their site is the Bear Tracks window. This unique stained glass window depicts two bear prints on a 17.5×26.5 art panel, and would look exceptionally good in a cabin type setting with a rustic outdoor appearance. This stained glass window truly breaks away from the traditional bright colors and beautiful images, which are typical in stained glass and goes a different route with subtle images of bear tracks on a earth toned panel.
